Just FYI.

This week in the Atchley home 4/21 - 4/27

28884|400 In the beginning of the week we were very proactive about Sophia going on the potty. Great success---3 times she went tinkle! The rest of the week not so good. We haven't even offered. It's hard to remember to take time to do it and do it so often. Any parents with potty trained kids have stories to offer? Sophia began "sneaking". She curls her shoulders over, bends her knees, and shuffles her feet forward inch by inch. She developed this trying to get into the room where I put Phoebe down when I am rocking the baby and trying to get her to sleep. I always kick her out to give Phoebe and I peace and quiet. Maybe she figured if she were more quiet about it she would be allowed in. Not a chance! Our digital camera has been slowly dying over the last few months and was getting worse. So BJ decided to buy me an early birthday gift and got us a great new camera. We have enjoyed playing around with it and taking lots of new pictures---as I am sure most...

Happy Birthday Sophia!!!

Sophia turned 2 today. Mommy will be posting more about the party starting tomorrow, but for now I wanted to point out the pictures from the party. Here's Sophia enjoying one of her gifts. Click here to go to the Gallery. 28416|640

New camera, (Happy Birthday Heather)

28859|400 Heather's Birthday isn't for a month but our old point and shoot camera is on the fritz. It wouldn't turn on so I tried hitting it... since that works so well for other electronics, and sure enough it turned back on long enough for me to pull the last few pictures from it. It's an old camera with a bad flash sync that overexposes everything when the flash is on. So I wanted to get something that would take better low light shots. This meant a higher end point and shoot, or girding up and dropping some money on a DSLR. Heather and I talked and we decided to go with the DSLR. Heather's Nikon d40 was dropped off yesterday by UPS and Adobe lightroom was downloaded yesterday evening. She knows I'll probably be using it more than her, so to call it hers is possibly disingenous, but Heather looks at our old photos and albums more than I do. Advantage Heather. Because of this new camera I'm starting a new category for photos within the blog. I'...

This week in the Atchley home 04/14 - 04/20

27974 I take Phoebe to the doctor for a swollen, red eyelid. It is a stye, nothing to worry about. However, after almost 2 hours at the pediatricians office I thought Sophia might enjoy some playtime. I have not been to a McDonalds in a very long time, but they have a new one near our house that has a great play area I thought she could burn some energy in. I could not have been more wrong. She ate wonderfully for lunch but I had to go up and rescue her twice in the play tubes. The first I climbed up and down (with Sophia) the narrow stairs with other children clambering around me to do the same. The second, I went up the same horrible stairs but went down the insanely long spiral slide (with Sophia freaking out). It was a total disaster and I remembered why I never go to McDonalds. We had a surprise morning visit from a friend of Sophia's she hasn't had over in awhile. I had a good time visiting with her mama while she spent half the time wanting to lay on the couch w...

This week in the Atchley home 04/07 - 04/13

27770 Now that Sophia can say her first name appropriately she walks around saying it all the time. "Sophia, Sophia, uh, Sophia." And then sometimes she will say "So-pia." It is pretty sweet to hear her running around the house chanting this. Sophia is trying to be a mini-mama to Phoebe. She shushes her and tells her to be quiet when she is crying and tells her to not touch all sorts of things around the house. She hears me "bossing" Phoebe around all day so why can't she, I am sure she is thinking. We are also dealing with Sophia trying to feed Phoebe. Mostly wanting to feed her the baby food from the spoon, but I can't quite trust her enough to not slop it everywhere or jam the spoon too far into Phoebe's mouth because she doesn't know better. She also wants to feed Phoebe her Goldfish and pretzels and other small food items. Obviously making me nervous since Phoebe has no teeth and can only really handle half a Goldfish and no pr...

This week in the Atchley home 03/31 - 04/06

27729 Just as Phoebe progresses week to week with her crawling and mobility Sophia progresses with her comprehension and speech. Some examples this week: On trying to get her to eat dinner: "Sophia, it is dinner time, don't you want to eat dinner?" "No." "But you need to eat something. It's time to eat." "No." "What? Do you want to starve?" (Me fully expecting a no answer) "Yes!" On trying to get her to take a nap: She is at home with daddy and I am telling her this on the phone. "Sophia it is night night time. You need to take a nap." "No." "It is nap time and you need to take a nap now. So you go lay down for daddy." "NO." "Sophia, it is night night time." "No." "Hand the phone to daddy." Without another word she hands the phone to BJ. Her 2 favorite questions: "What you doing?" "What dat?" Sophia pretending on her play cel...

A little song for Tim.

Doing drugs at work

I normally don't write about work here. I like to keep work at work, but something happened that is far too hilarious for me to pass up. On Tuesday evening I mowed our lawn for the first time after the seasonal break due to winter. Naturally the first things that begin to grow are weeds. The grass is still browned and dry and will need a few weeks of weed and feed, coercion, and watering to change to a normal green color. We had a lawn service maintaining our lawn for the majority of last year but decided the $100 monthly fee could be better spent on pretty much anything, so we canceled in the off season. In my new excitement to maintain my own lawn I decided I needed/wanted a gas-powered edger/weed eater. Faced with a non-stop 8 months of lawn care, I thought it would be okay to spend $100 or so on a nice gas-powered one so I don't have to keep replacing spools and messing with the cord on our electric whacker. My inspiration was a 2-stroke weed eater my parents had giv...

This was an April fools post. Along with screwed up random colors the blog had some pics to share.
