Compliments

On our drive home from the gym Sophia says, "Daddy is brave." Thinking the compliment was random and out of nowhere (although we did just part ways with him at the gym) I repeat, "Daddy is brave?! Why is Daddy brave?" "No, Daddy is great !" Ohhhhh! Great....well what about me?!" "You are beautiful." Well, I will take that! At least she knows what's what. :D

Big Strong Hands

Sometimes we like to have a family movie night. Admittedly most of our movie selection is far too intense for small children. We received Night at the Museum from Netflix and decided to watch it with the kids. It's probably just over the edge of intensity for our kids but Heather had been hyping it up so much that we were locked in. 71613|640 Sadly I had ripped the blu-ray incorrectly and the resulting video file did not work properly. We found this out after popcorn, blankets, and snacks were laid out for the little ones. We were then in a dash to find a movie the kids had not seen. Thank you netflix streaming for having The Neverending Story as a streaming selection. It's probably at about the same level as Night at the Museum for action intensity, but I had forgotten completely about how dramatic the emotional aspects of the movie could be for children. The girls were complete enthralled with the movie. We didn't realize just how much Sophia was wrapped up in t...

Phoebe Update

I wanted to post an updated photo of Phoebe so you can all see she is happily recovering from her 'incident' the other day. 71661|600 We are keeping it clean, dry, and treated with antibiotic ointment. We continue to be very cautious with what she gets to do and how rough her and her sister play together. She reminds me to "be gentle" with her head. She also mentions every once in awhile how "Sissy pushed me into the bed". Sophia sure won't live this one down! And I know this will haunt me for some time. I still get so sick to my stomach and want to cry when I think about that day and what happened. But all I do is look at Phoebe and see that she is okay and happy, and that makes me feel much better.

Sophia, on the run!

We have really taken to having the girls play out front instead out back a lot this year. We have several girls on our side of the street that come out and play with our kids; which is a nice bonus for all. We have also really enjoyed taking the camera out to get a bunch of shots of the girls in their element--playtime! I liked these photos of Sophia running..... 71409|520 71427|520 71475|520 71451|520 71481|520

A life-long gift to Phoebe, Love Sophia

The girls had been playing wonderfully yesterday running around and playing chase. I was getting myself ready for a meeting I was going to be having at 1:30pm at my house. I was in our bathroom and was coming out just in time as Phoebe was coming down (from Sophia pushing her) and smacking her head on the edge of the leg of our bed. The "THWACK" sound it made was horrific and something I will never forget in my life. I knew it was bad as soon as I heard it. Phoebe immediately starting crying and Sophia had already bolted knowing she had done wrong. I scooped Phoebe up and put her on the kitchen counter to get a good look at her and that is when I saw all the blood. It was dripping down her face and down her ballerina outfit and all over me. Just imagine the force at which her head probably hit the bed because she was running and then got pushed. She was being propelled pretty fast. It is no wonder she cracked her head open. I grabbed the kitchen towel and tried to...

I need privacy

With quickly maturing little girls running around the house it came time to start teaching modesty. Teaching by example is usually the easiest, so if a 2 year old bursts into the bathroom I'll usually ask her to leave and close the door so I can have my privacy. 69103|640 Today we were preparing to go to the pool and Phoebe desperately wanted to show me her new swimsuit. However, I was in the middle of changing into my swimsuit. As she walked into the bedroom I told her, "I need privacy please." She kept walking toward me. "I want privacy Phoebe." She looked at me with a confused look on her face. "Please walk over there so I can have my privacy." She turned and looked in the direction I pointed then turned around with an exasperated look. "Phoebe, I'm changing clothes. I'd like my privacy. Please go over there." She looked again and twisted her face in frustration. She told me with exasperation, "But I can't FIND ...

Music to scare hamsters

Beatrice loves to escape whenever possible. After escaping she will typically try to find the closest nook or cranny to hide in. This is all fine and dandy as we can reach most nooks and crannies in our house. She did, however, discover a home away from home. My ported Velodyne home theater subwoofer. What's frustrating about this is there's no easy way to take it apart. The port is very long so reaching in to grab the little rodent doesn't work. My thinking was lots of low bass would scare her into coming out. I tried a couple of songs and finally found the song that immediately brought her out of the subwoofer. Hooray for dubstep.
