Toothless

Having 2 kids only 15 months apart it's bound to happen that they will get loose teeth at the same time.  For Sophia it was her third tooth and Phoebe her first.  Sophia's front tooth had been loose for WEEKS, probably a couple months really.  She is apprehensive about pulling her tooth, and kind of lazy when it comes to wiggling it to help it become looser.  Phoebe became VERY proactive in wiggling her tooth because she was very excited about losing it.  Her tooth was loose enough when she had her EGD (see below post The Interesting Life of Phoebe Atchley for an explanation on that one) that the anesthesiologist felt it might be too loose to keep in there for her procedure.  He said he would check it once she was asleep and pull it then if it was necessary.  It was necessary.  They didn't want to knock it loose and then risk her choking on it.  Funny how she didn't get to be a part of being able to pull her own FIRST lost tooth.  However, that didn't keep her from ...

Good Looks

This kid doesn't know it, but he made THIS lady's day pretty awesome..... I was at gymnastics with the girls and a boy who looked about age 8 or 9 came up to me and said "You look pretty." I gave him a polite, but shocked, "thank you" and then asked Sophia to get the door because we were already on our way out. This same sweet boy rushes to the door and holds it open telling me "I'll hold it for you!" My heart melted.

Fight Club

Sophia (7) and Phoebe (6) have been fighting really bad the last month or so. Reaching the end of our rope as parents and sick of the yelling, we said to heck with it! When they started in on each other we ignored it, and even if hitting started, we ignored it. Then it escalated to full on girl cat fight yesterday, and we let it happen. We didn't have to get involved and when the "fight" was over they were done and walked away and we had no more problems the rest of the night. Today the same thing happened. Phoebe started hitting, I let it continue. They got into another horrible cat fight and Sophia practically has a black eye to show for it (Phoebe can THROW DOWN, it's kinda scary). Once the fight was over the 3 of us had a good talk and I think they realize this hitting thing isn't so great. Time will tell if letting them smack the crap out of each other has taught them that talking it out or walking away are the better choices. *heavy sigh*

Ugh, my parents are the worst

Once again BJ and I were doing something silly and slightly embarrassing aimed at Sophia. She became frustrated (naturally) again with us, so I asked her, "Sophia, are your parents lame or cool?" I appreciate her response..... "Well, you're both lame and cool." I'll take that, I'll take that indeed.

Angry Boobs

While this story might be somewhat embarrassing for her and others may find inappropriate, I found it hilarious and had to share! My girls have a huge bucket of dress up clothes, and my seven year old was wearing a black leotard with a skirt. She has these 2 small, very round, stuffed Angry Birds toys that make noises when you squeeze them. She decided to stuff them down her leotard. She very much looked like she had boobs. She played around for awhile looking like that and when it was dinner time but she decided to leave them in. She leaned over her bowl each time she took a bite so she wouldn't drop her food all down her. HOWEVER, each time she leaned forward, with her current height, her "boobs" hit right at the edge of the table causing her Angry Birds boobs to make noise each and every time. She wasn't phased by it and ate her whole meal that way. I found myself laughing hysterically in the other room.

The Interesting Life of Phoebe Atchley

We have had a lot going on with our little Phoebe.  Over 3 months ago she started complaining of her stomach hurting her.  It wasn't every day, and it wasn't always in the same place either.  She wasn't vomiting, still eating, and having no nausea.  So it went that way for a little over a month until I finally had enough and I took her to her Pediatrician.  While the stomach complaints weren't alarming, they are also not typical of Phoebe and it was time to figure it out.  To my great surprise she tested positive for strep throat.  She was having no complaints about her throat, which is how she has presented with strep in the past.  I know kids can have stomach aches and throwing up with it so it seemed plausible.  The doctor did say a month is kind of a long time to be having stomach pain that could be associated with strep but it needed to be treated either way.  He said if it didn't go away after the antibiotics then he wanted to put her on Prevacid because she d...
