Israel's Track Record

I don't want to post in anger, or appear to be an anti-Israel zealot. There are answers that we need and the US has turned a blind eye to the mistakes of Israel in the past. After the recent mistake made by the Israeli military it becomes more and more difficult to understand why the US continues it's unchecked support of Israel.

Now let me say that I'm not condoing the abolishment of the Israeli state, or even suggesting that Israel did not have the right to protect it's borders, but their lack of precision in killing actual members of Hezbollah brings into question their true stance with relation to Lebanon. It seems that they wish to incite horror into the populace of Lebanon to scare the state into action. They fail to understand that the continued reckless aggression being shown will only solidify the middle-east againt them. They are even begnning to draw the ire of the UK and US.

I can't criticize Israel without also pointing out that Lebanon continues its silence in taking responsibility for its borders and people. I mentioned in a previous comment that the escalation of these conflicts, together with the recent sparring in trade negotiations, has the potential to start some pretty serious problems for the world in general. Then there's North Korea, who seems like no matter what it does it won't get the attention it wants.

  1. There is one major difference with North Korea... China. As long as China continues to back North Korea we wont be able to do much more than talk. That is for another discussion though.

Israel has been left with only one option. For decades now they have tried to get along with Lebanon only responding in kind with whatever comes at them but this time Hezbollah finally went to far. I admit I think Israel should be more discerning with its targets but when fighting a group that is willing to hide in civillian clothes amongst civillians to protect themselves then the civillians will be harmed. I for one would not harbor or tolerate a terrorist living in my neighborhood nor under my roof so I expect that of other people. If I chose to do so I would be accepting of the fact that anyone with cause to hurt said people would target my home. Let me make this bold...

Civillians who harbor or protect those who define their lives by waging war on innocent countries for the express purpose of forcing their beliefs on others deserve nothing short of death because they are as guilty as the ones delivering the pain.

These terrorists want to kill us. They want nothing short of our destruction and will do anything to achieve that. The US asks of other countries to provide individuals inside their borders with the freedom to determine their own future. This will is the same as that God granted to us from our beginings, Free Will. If the people choose our way thats great if they dont we attempt to influence the political processes in those countries peacfully to further our ideals but ultimately its live and let live. We only act when threatened.

I could go on but I will spare your readers my thoughts...

  2. The problem being that the free will of those people has allowed a terrorist faction to take control in Palestine, and it is the PUBLIC viewpoint that Israel needs to be eliminated. There is a reason that regular citizens allow Hezbollah faction members to hide among them, they actully support them. Most Shiite countries in the Middle East support the eradication of Israel as a nation. If the governments do not acknowledge it then the general populace holds it as their viewpoint.

This begs the question of our purpse in the middle east. By allowing popular control by the majority we create more antagonistic governments to the US. My problem is not necessarily with Israel's coninued offensive strikes into Lebanon, but the severity of them combined with a continued blind eye by the US government. One of my links led to it but I suggest looking up the USS Liberty incident on wikipedia, or just googling it. It's an enlightening look a just how underhanded Israel can be. Mind you every single survivor of the USS Liberty attack believes the attack to have been on purpose, yet it remains the only "accidental" attack of a US base/ship not investigated by congress.

  4. I think there is something thats not being told about the Liberty incident but from the material I read it looks like it was a wartime accident rather than intentional. Emmotions always run high during/after accidents like that one. That must taken into account when reviewing the crews statements.
