Make your own indie album cover

Image
This one is circulating forums and blogs, but hasn't hit anything like Digg yet, so some people might not have seen it yet. It's a fun exercise though. Here are the steps to making your own indie album cover. Step 1: Band Name - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first article title on the page is the name of your band. Step 2: Album Name http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last 4 words of the very last quote is the name of your album. Step 3: Album Cover Art - http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/ The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. Step 4: Track List http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Randomredirect The first 11 or so articles you land on will be your tracklist. Here's what I get. Band Name: Anetumumab Album Name: Spring of Happy Quotations Cover Art: Track List: KV 430 Lewis Clark County Genetic Algorithm in economics Mingmonkul Sonakul Mysterious Sleeping Sickness! Defend Young Girls'...

I have a new desktop picture

I may have to change it though. Too many people are stopping by to comment. 24899

New PC build, what and why.

27497 It's that exciting time every 2 years when I put together another PC. The goal in this one is to build a Home Theater PC. I won't be running windows media center or even Vista media center, but the goal is to play high-def content on my TV. The TV in this case is a 46" 1920 x 1080 LCD with a 60hz refresh. The best solution for non High def content is Xbox Media Center on a hacked Xbox 1. The Xbox 1 CPU isn't exactly up to task at playing anything using h.264 or Xvid at anything higher than 540p or hr.hdtv (in scene parlance). First I had to settle on a mid-tower case that was quiet, could be closed and locked (I have kids remember and this is going in the living room), cheap, and looked dull enough to not draw too much attention to itself. Considering the built-in 500w power supply, I decided to go with the antec Sonata III . It's marketed as being quiet, has easy access to the internals via a locking side panel, and most importantly has a locking fron...

This week in the Atchley home 2/18 - 2/24

Apple juice! Apple juice! Apple juice! If ever there was a kid addicted to apple juice it is Sophia Atchley! BJ and I call her our little juice-a-holic. She asks for it all day and will slug down 8 to 10oz within 5 minutes and still ask for more. When we go anywhere we always take a sippy cup with us. The other day I was going to a store in Lewisville and due to rushing I grabbed whatever cup was lying around, which happened to have a bit of apple juice in it, but not much. It was enough for her to get a taste of it, I suppose, but not enough to satisfy her. In the car she began her 'fake', unsympathetic whining for apple juice and I knew I couldn't make it to the store and back dealing with this. I had to make an emergency apple juice pit stop at Sonic. Within 10 minutes she drank her whole cup and by the time we got to the store I was filling her cup again with the last of it. Some days I worry she is drinking too much juice and not enough water so BJ and I have...

Combine jumpman and Lode Runner with ninjas and awesome physics and you get N . It was released on Wednesday on Xbox live . It's awesome. I can't actually describe how great this game is. Considering you can download the PC version for free from its homepage , you need to try it out.

The most dangerous group in America...

Christian's United for Israel is a multi-denominational, largely evangelical christian organization, that supports Israel. In and of itself this doesn't seem to be such a bad thing given that a large part of the christian canon is Jewish in origin. The problem comes down to the eschatological beliefs of those who participate in this zionist meeting of minds. Far from plain old jewish zionism that asserts it's belief that Israel and its lands belong in jewish hands, specific portions of christian eschatology are prefaced by certain happenings in the middle east. Things like: armageddon, the reconstruction of the temple of solomon (the location of which is currently taken by the second holiest location to muslims, the Dome of the Rock. Obviously the temple destruction or control of this site would have to fall in jewish hands again.) etc, etc.. would have to transpire. Evangelicals usually adopt the Pretribulationist view that believes that the rapture will occur prior...

Sophia sure is a sweetheart

27431 Last night Heather had a meeting with some people from church. They convened at our house so it was my duty to distract the kids enough to allow them to have their meeting with as little interruption as possible. At first we just played with toys, but obviously an almost 2 year old is going to want to show off as much as possible when any visitors are around. So our old stand-by came out. Since the living room was used and the TV off limits, this left with using the laptop to watch either Finding Nemo, Cars, or Kikis Delivery Service, possibly Toy Story. After starting the movie we went to her bedroom and I brought her foam princess chair (a tiny pink chair with disney princesses on it). She chose cars. We started the movie and I found it a convenient time to take a nap. She was completely enthralled, so I didn't think anything of it. Apparently while I was falling asleep she I had bumped up against her princess chair. I felt a pat on my shoulder and heard her say, ...

Heather will get a kick out of this when she sees it

This is a nightly ritual for me now.

A few more changes

I changed the way my gamertag is displayed in the sidebar. Some people have issues seeing the site if there's anything from a gaming related website displayed. It now caches the gamer info locally, so there shouldn't be any issues. Try it from work again Adrian. We'll see if I've fixed the issue.

Climate change versus other risks

I've posted about this in the past, but a recent cato daily podcast spells it out succinctly. I share the expert's opinion on this, and please note that it is not denying that climate changes exists and is most likely caused by human greenhouse gas emissions, it only draws comparisons to other dangers that threaten human life. Give the podcast a listen, it's only about 10 minutes long. [audio:indurmgoklany_climatechangeversusotherrisks_20080130.mp3] A few thoughts: Climate change is a red herring. The end result of a marketplace shift towards "green" tech would lower or eliminate reliance on foreign oil, subvert large corporate strangleholds on areas such as automobiles, power, lighting, utilities themselves, and force better manufacturing practices among companies. It is a smart idea to adopt green technology in your personal lives where it is economically feasible. Higher efficiency saves money. One major point brought up in the podcast is the human dest...

Lunch posting

In order save money and get a more consistent diet I'm going to start eating lunch at my desk. This would be a great time for me to make more consistent updates to our family website. There's only so many times I can read reason , Andrew Sullivan , and levelup while waiting to see the latest fearmongering article from CNN . I used to frequent the New York Times , but everytime I look at the site all I see is a snake on the right hand corner ready to attack. Like some venemous serpent waiting to oppose common sense and thought while combining the worst of all possible schools of political thought. Yes, I'm talking about you mister William Kristol . He and Orson Scott Card should go make man-babies (I only mention Card because I used to frequent his column and blog sites). I really have to concentrate now or I'll get distracted and start shouting into the wind. It looks like Heather has been inspired by her sister's consistency in updating their family blog/...

Making steak

This is specifically a recipe for boneless rib-eye. Fundamentally it's the same as Alton Brown's and requires the use of a Cast Iron skillet. When purchasing the meat, make sure you're getting a cut that isn't already old. If it's graying, it's already been sitting out under the butcher flourescents for a while so get a cut that hasn't grayed at all, and look for tight even marbling. The best bet is to find a good butcher. There's a few things I've altered to make it even better. First let the steaks sit out on butcher paper in your fridge for 2 days. 1 day for each side. We want to use the fridge since it is a dry environment. After the 2 days the steak should look much brighter red and the gristle/fat should take on a more transparent look with dry spots making it look a little splotchy. It's going to look a little ugly. Remove from the fridge 4 hours or more in order to let them come to room temperature before cooking. Here is where w...

This week in the Atchley home 2/11 - 2/17

27431 Sophia has always been interested in the phone and when I talk on the phone. In the past we have tried to get her to talk but without much success. Starting this week Sophia has really taken to talking on the phone. She will now respond appropriately to questions and enjoys taking the phone around to her different toys and books and "showing" the person on the phone her stuff. One time with Granny she held the phone to a book and asked her to "read". Granny and Nana sure love it! There are a lot of things I teach Sophia (words, dances, movements) and then there are certain things that she does that I have no idea where she gets them from. She started doing this (what I call) "knobby knees" dance. She bends her knees with her legs apart and wobbles them back and forth. This week a major thing happened for Sophia. She is now in a big girl bed! She began to crawl out of her crib with more frequency. Daddy and I were worried she might hurt her...

My kids are great

27369 Phoebe is really starting to show her personality and some quirks. She does what BJ and I have termed "the wiggle". It started with just her head moving back and forth and after a few weeks it progressed to her whole body. She wiggles back and forth like a snake trying to slither. It is so cute and funny to see. BJ got it on tape and will hopefully be able to post a video of it. She also does a scrunch face. When she is really happy and playful she gives me the biggest toothless grin she can and purposefully squints or closes her eyes and tilts her head up. Sometimes she will do it one after the other. I love trying to get her to do these things purely for my entertainment. She is almost crawling and I am so excited for her to get around. She does pretty well now with her army crawl and rolling around, but I know she will be happier too once she can really move. She can get on her hands and knees but hasn't figured out anything beyond that. I have no do...

Diaper emergency!

I can't wait to potty train these kids, but especially Sophia. I have had too many close calls where I was not at home and she is wearing the last diaper I had with me, or she is wet/dirty and I don't have one to offer. Remembering one extra pair of panties (in case of an accident) is a lot easier than trying to determine how many diapers to cram into the diaper bag depending on where I am going and for how long. I had a particularly desperate diaper situation today. I was working for my mom and I had somehow only packed 3 Sophia diapers. When I was putting on that last diaper I pulled too hard and broke off the taped side that would allow me to close the diaper. I have actually done this a handful of other times at home but there is another diaper right at hand. This time I had to scoop up my confused daughter, as to why her diaper was not on her properly, and take her to the office to ask Granny for some help. Packing tape did the trick and Sophia was none the wiser o...

Website Updates

I've made some updates in accordance with the original theme designer's. Hit refresh on the main page and in the photo gallery to clear the stylesheet and get rid of any weirdness that might be popping up.

Probably the coolest thing ever

Using a Tesla Coil as a guitar amp.

Everyone kept forgetting the blog name. Heck, I don't even know how to pronounce it. I think it would be pronounced like nation, with a slurred sh sound, considering the word doesn't exist. Atchleyfam.com now redirects here.

Comments work again

Sorry about that. Apparently the math plug-in was broken as of the last few releases of wordpress. I've got something else in place that shouldn't be irritating. I'm sorry for all the lost comments.
