Speech
There was a day a couple years ago that I was sitting at Chipotle having lunch by myself. There was a mom eating lunch with her son, who looked about 7 years old. I couldn't help but over hear their conversation. It was a simple conversation, but I enjoyed the back and forth of it and that her son could reciprocate so many thoughts and feelings. I told myself I couldn't wait for that day to come for Sophia and I: when she could tell me what was in that little head, ask me questions so she could learn new things, and on and on. We are pretty much there, almost. She amazes me with the things she says and what she asks. It has been a lot of fun for me and brought on many laughs. Here is a sampling of my little Sophia:
Zebras is pronounced "zwebras", Giraffes is "giraffseses"
My favorite version of Bah, Bah Black Sheep: "Blah, Blah black sheep have you any WOOL?! Yessir, yessir three bags FULLLL!! One to my dollas, one to my dames, one to the little girl who lives down the drain!" *big grin*
She went through a period of referencing me as "your highness". A mom has gotta love that, right?!
Comes running out of the hallway from her room and asks me "Can you tell me to stop it?" I really don't know what she was doing.
She was doing something silly with BJ and he asked her if it was fun. She says "It's not fun, it's laughing funny." And indeed they had been laughing from the fun they had been having.
She points to a picture of a hot dog in a bun and calls it a "dog hamburger". A "hot dog" in our house is usually just the wiener. The bread really did make it sort of look like a hamburger.
I am also learning I am underestimating Phoebe and what she knows and what she can say. I was sitting at the table eating a snack with her and she tells me "I want some more." Oh my gosh! A complete sentence! She manages to do this everyday and amaze me with a new sentence, long or short. I still speak very simple and plainly to her, but I am quickly learning that I am going to have to change how I speak to her so that she can progress. I certainly don't want to be the one holding her back! How quickly these little babes grow and change.
