Toothless
Having 2 kids only 15 months apart it's bound to happen that they will get loose teeth at the same time. For Sophia it was her third tooth and Phoebe her first. Sophia's front tooth had been loose for WEEKS, probably a couple months really. She is apprehensive about pulling her tooth, and kind of lazy when it comes to wiggling it to help it become looser. Phoebe became VERY proactive in wiggling her tooth because she was very excited about losing it. Her tooth was loose enough when she had her EGD (see below post The Interesting Life of Phoebe Atchley for an explanation on that one) that the anesthesiologist felt it might be too loose to keep in there for her procedure. He said he would check it once she was asleep and pull it then if it was necessary. It was necessary. They didn't want to knock it loose and then risk her choking on it. Funny how she didn't get to be a part of being able to pull her own FIRST lost tooth. However, that didn't keep her from still being so completely beside herself with joy from having lost her tooth before Sophia lost hers.
So many things in life are competition between these two. Phoebe had gotten herself all revved up to rub it in Sophia's face (in a fun, loving way) that she lost her tooth. I was waiting at the end of our driveway for when Sophia got off the bus. She came RUNNING up to me and said "Guess what I lost after lunch today?!" There she was with a big toothless grin. I took her inside and both girls got very busy showing each other their smiles, teeth and telling their stories. It was all very exciting, fun, and sweet.
Then there became the issue of the Tooth Fairy pillow. When Sophia had her first loose tooth we quickly ordered her this adorable plush owl pillow for her teeth. It came from BJ and I as a gift for her birthday and she loved it. We purchased a colorful mermaid plush pillow for Phoebe and planned on giving it to her for Christmas. I underestimated how much she would wiggle that darn thing! Anyway, so we had the pillow and we decided it would come from the Tooth Fairy. That night Sophia let her use the little plastic treasure box she had gotten at school to hold her tooth. We slipped in later with her mermaid pillow stuffed with $2 (extra for the FIRST tooth of course!) and a little note from the Tooth Fairy explaining why she was giving her the pillow. She was so proud of that thing and snuggled it all the next day.
Sometimes I miss the awe, wonderment, and innocence of childhood. Good thing we can siphon a little of it off of our children as they go through these staples of childhood! I am so thankful we get to be a part of it.

So cool. Funny that they lost them the same day!
