Updates incoming

I'm about to update the site to a new look. The reason being that I'm now rather behind the times. Both the gallery software I use and the blogging software has moved to new iterations and sadly this theme won't be compatible with the new versions. The most unfortunate part of all of this is that all the pictures will soon break. You'll still be able to seem them in the gallery but they will no longer be in the blog posts for older posts.

Goodbye thumb

Phoebe found great comfort in sucking her thumb. She is however aware that it has damaged her teeth and produced a slight overbite. Prior to yesterday it was quite common to find Phoebe sucking her thumb with her blanket nestled snugly against her cheek or nose. This has now changed. We discussed with Phoebe the perils of continued thumb sucking and why she should try and quit. She acknowledged the problems and did try to stop, but unfortunately her will faltered in the face of discomfort, sadness, or sleep. "It tastes good," she would comment. 78501|640 We decided to change that particular fact. 2 days ago the Mavala Stop arrived. Fundamentally it's terrible tasting nail polish. It works. Phoebe is doing wonderfully. She is not saddened at no longer sucking her thumb and as it turns out only needed a constant reminder that it was time to quit. Apparently it's a particularly foul tasting reminder as she went through 2 juice boxes and quite a bit of milk yesterday s...

The Family Bed

Sophia said something this morning that sparked quite a thought, and a confirmation of what she said, in my head. Lately the girls have taken to snuggling in bed with us when they come in in the morning. It is not every morning, but it has become more frequent than it was in the past. Phoebe was already cuddling with me in the bed when Sophia came in. I saw her and said "Uh, oh. Sophia's coming too." While she was climbing up the foot of the bed to assume her snuggle position she said "Well, this is the family bed, right?" 40655|525 This is an old photo, but a goody. Notice where they are? It made both BJ and I giggle, but while we all lay there burrowed into each other I realized something. What she said is true! It may be Mommy and Daddy's bedroom, but it truly IS a family bed. There have been many times that I have taken naps in that bed with either girls, taken naps with Dawn (our ancient cat), or Dawn simply sleeping there on her own. The gir...

More things to come

This will be a busy week for our family so we might not be able to fulfill our new found commitment to updating our family blog more regularly. 78015|400 You should expect far more updates. We've been selfish with our daughters lately and have failed to consistently give friends and family a place to read about their exploits. Here's some things you can expect in the new year. Sophia starts kindergarten Gym logs from BJ Daphne's arrival Phoebe's rehabilitation from thumb sucking More photos Kids say the darnedest things Possibly some notes on development of some app ideas I've had for handhelds and HTPCs Here are some highlights from our ever curious daughter Sophia. In 2009 Sophia was so hopeful for snow that she decided to pray for it. Almost daily she would pray for it to snow on Christmas. It snowed on Christmas. Last year she had the same prayer. Sadly, it didn't work and there was no snow to be seen on Christmas day. It did however snow ...
