Forza Vettel! Forza Ferrari!!!

I guess I'm a Vettel guy. It wasn't clear until my emotions got caught up in Ferrari's win this past weekend in Malaysia but there ya go. Check out Ferrari's race infographic review site. Very cool design. http://formula1.ferrari.com/en/malaysian-gp-lap-by-lap/

Vacuum cleaner haircut

Image
This is the hair that was removed from the vacuum cleaner rotating brush assembly. Banana for scale. 3 daughters 1 wife and a short haired cat. I don't think the cat contributed much.

Kyle Smith - Cousin

Kyle came into town over the weekend and we were able to spend time with him over at Sherry's house. We talked about him and his father. A good time was had by all and it was inspiring to see him searching out his personal story by coming and visiting the little DFW cluster of family. Hope to see Kyle and his lovely family again soon.

Baby Sandwiches

Image
We've built up some funny phrases in the Atchley household. A lot of these funny phrases happen because we're trying to encourage the girls to do something they might not want to do. When a sandwich is cut into 4 pieces we declare that the sandwich has been turned into baby sandwiches. Daphne loves baby sandwiches. When baby sandwiches are created Daphne will let out a small and very cute "awwwww!", and proceed to devour them. This happened today: Daphne: I would like a sandwich please. Dad: Would you like a ham and salami sandwich? Daphne: Oh yes please, those are the best meats, yup. (Daphne says yup quite often) Dad: Would you like them cut into baby sandwiches. Daphne: Yup, mmhmmm. Dad: Do you want triangles or squares. Daphne: Triangles taste better. (sandwiches are made and plated) Daphne: This looks like sandwich pizza, yup. Daphne: You make the best sandwiches with the best meats. Dad: Thank You. Daphne: These babies taste really good. Dad: *snickers*

Daphne still a little under the weather

She seemed to get a little bit more sleep last night and was kept company by our cat, Penny. We had her sleeping on the living room couch so her coughing wouldn't disturb her sisters and we would be able to hear her if she had a coughing fit in the middle of the night. Daphne seems to be on the mend. At 5:00 AM I went out to check on her and found her sitting up in bed with her eyes open. I whispered, "Are you okay?" She replied with a quiet , "shhhhhhh". Penny was nestled in right next to Daphne. Daphne didn't want to disturb the cat. She beamed at me with a wide grin. I kissed her and went back to bed. When Sophia and Phoebe woke up to get ready for school I carried my little soon to be 4-year-old to her room, where she is still sleeping peacefully at this very moment. I haven't heard a cough from her all morning. Hopefully, she's on the mend.

Good morning.

Sick Kids

I suppose it's just that time of year. Right after getting over a cold it looks like we're up for round 2 with some sort of cough... thing. Just like last time Phoebe and Daphne are leading the charge into misery. We got a 4 am wakeup call from a poor 3 year old that was having a bad night. She eventually stopped coughing and fell back asleep. As a man I'm not really aware enough to know whether I'm sick or not, so hopefully I'm sick and will get over it soon.

Jeremy Clarkson suspended

The lead twit in the highly entertaining twit races that I enjoy watching on Sunday evenings has been suspended for acting like a twit. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-31824040 Here's a consolation Youtube Video [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCyr1ugzxXM[/embed]

Phoebe-Gymnast of the Month

Image
Phoebe was gymnast of the month in January. This means that she was featured in Eagle Gymnastic's ad in the local paper.

Timing is everything

Heather and I are trying to be open with our children when they have honest questions about the nature of the world and their own bodies. This has meant that each of the girls gets a reasonable overview of sex at around 7-8 years old. They ask enough questions that we decide that it's time to unravel the mystery that a significant portion of the world is steeped in. Phoebe enjoys watching sitcom style shows. Left to her own devices she would gravitate to the terribly written Disney tween sitcoms so we try to include her in moderately innocuous adult style sitcoms like 30 rock and recently the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt show. One of the episodes of Kimmy Schmidt has a character in a relationship with a closeted gay man. Phoebe: "What is gay?" Dad: "Most boys like girls and want to marry them. Most girls like boys and want to marry them. Some boys like boys instead and some girls like girls instead. Being gay is when a boy likes a boy and wants to marry him or a girl li...

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is very funny

http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/80025384?trkid=50361908 From "30 Rock" executive producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock comes this hilarious comedy series starring Ellie Kemper ("The Office," "Bridesmaids") as a woman who is rescued from a doomsday cult and starts life over as a nanny for a socialite (Jane Krakowski from "30 Rock") in New York City. Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers and a couple of past-due library books, she takes on a world she didn't think even existed anymore.

Daphne says

Daphne: I want you to have this coin. I want you to have money so our family can always look like a picture. I had no reply. I just thanked her for helping and put the penny in my little savings jar.

Dr Seuss night at Brent elementary

School is Closed

Snow last night meant closed school. Closed school meant Texas children who were ill prepared for the cold were let loose outside. It doesn't matter, they had quite a bit of fun. I'll get pictures up in the next couple of days.

Virtual Reality is happening this year

Valve just announced a VR headset. Impressions from the internet seem to indicate that it's super awesome. http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/04/htc-vive-hands-on/
I shut down my facebook account for a few days and realized I still wanted to say random things or post about what is happening in our little family. While I'd like to blame being super busy as the reason for the sparse updating of the family website the real blame lies with facebook. Since I'm not posting dumb things to facebook, I can now post everything here. You're welcome.
